Instructional Design |  Learning Theory  |  Learner Performance Strategy

the brief

Using research-based methods for assessing learner performance and mapping appropriate assessment methods to instructional strategies and learning objectives, we developed an assesment strategy for the McGill Agile and SCRUM Certification course. The McGill Agile and SCRUM Master Certification aims, to develop knowledgeable professionals who are able to lead a project or team using these value-driven techniques. As such, it was important to develop a strategy to ensure objectives are met by learners.

Profile of representation learners and Persona Development

In Executive Education, objectives are used as much as a marketing component as they are to guide instruction and outcomes. The title of a course gains the attention of the learner but the objectives need to be in line with the problem the learner is seeking to solve - this is the appeal.

Adults are motivated learners when the results can help or provide better tools for a current problem they are facing.

We developed drill and practice, discovery, and hands-on type activities. A quiz at the beginning of the course was added to serve as motivation for the learner and prepares them for the absorb activities to come.

Ponder, discovery, and original work activities were included to help connect the learning to the learners experiences and those of other learners.
